08-11-23 Assurance of Salvation

We have been having a lot of trouble with our recording software lately. Sorry that many of the weeks sermons have not been on-line.  This Past week I preached on the assurance of salvation.  I had a request for the various scripture passages that I used.  As you look up these passages may you experience joy and peace knowing that God's commitment to those who have faith in Jesus is way beyond our commitment to God. It concerns me that many believers start to think that it is more our "commitment" to Christ that saves, over our faith in Christ.

When you look at your past, and even your present, do you fall short of God's standard. Do you fall short of God's glory?

Isaiah 64:6
Romans 7:23-24

Scriptures tell us that there is nothing of us that can bring us what we truly seek

Romans 3:20
1 Timothy 1:15

Jesus came for those who have heavey burdens

Matthew 11:28
Here is not the least assurance to be found in any virtue or good thing in us; but our only assurance is in the Lord Himself. If we would attain assurance we must look away from ourselves, from our sins, from our good deeds, from everything within us, and look to Jesus, who is our righteousness,

1 Peter 2:24-25
Colossians 2:14
Philippians 1:6
Romans 8:31-34

After reading all of these incredibly encouraging verses about God's action towards me, why do I fear, why am I unsure:

- Maybe you don't believe it. - The Gospel is the hardest thing in the world to believe

- Galatians 3:10 But those who depend on the law to make them right with God are under his curse, for the Scriptures say, “Cursed is everyone who does not observe and obey all the commands that are written in God’s Book of the Law.”

You must stop trusting in your ability, and come to Jesus and rest fully in his ability to save you, redeem you, wash you and do something brand new.

(thanks for reading instead of listening... the audio "should" be back on line next week.)
